SC stays bail orders of 'Choto Sajjad', wife in seven murder cases
Sajjad is currently at Rajshahi Jail and his wife is held at Feni Jail.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the bail orders granted to Chattogram Metropolitan Police's listed top criminal Sajjad Hossain alias "Choto Sajjad" and his wife Tamanna Sharmin in seven murder cases, following a petition filed by the state.
The order was issued today (17 December) after a hearing, confirmed Assistant Public Prosecutor of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury.
"Sazzad and his wife were granted bail by the High Court in seven murder cases in September last year. The issue came to light last week after the bail orders reached Chattogram Central Jail, prompting the state to file a petition seeking suspension of the bail. The Appellate Division later granted the plea," he said.
Court data shows that of the seven murder cases, four were filed with Chandgaon Police Station and three with Panchlaish Model Police Station. The cases stemmed from violence linked to the July movement and incidents under the Explosives Act.
According to police and court sources, Sajjad is accused in a total of 19 cases, including 10 murder cases. His wife also faces eight cases, including multiple murder charges.
Sajjad was arrested by police from the Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in Dhaka on 15 March. Later, on 10 May, Tamanna Sharmin was arrested in connection with a double murder in the Bakalia area.
Sajjad is currently at Rajshahi Jail and his wife is held at Feni Jail.
