SC decides to promote over 300 additional district judges to district judge
Over 200 judges will be promoted to the post of additional district judge
The Supreme Court has decided to promote more than 300 additional district judges of subordinate courts across the country to the position of district judge.
In addition, over 200 judges will be promoted to the post of additional district judge, according to sources familiar with the decision.
The decision came during a full court meeting of the Supreme Court held this afternoon (4 November) with the participation of all judges from both the Appellate and High Court Divisions.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, began at 3pm and continued until 5:15pm. Multiple sources confirmed the developments to The Business Standard.
According to the sources, Chief Justice Refaat Ahmed recently proposed to the Ministry of Law the formation of a special commercial court in each district to expedite the disposal of business-related cases.
A draft law regarding the formation of such courts has already been prepared and submitted to the ministry.
To ensure an adequate number of qualified judges to preside over these upcoming commercial courts, the Supreme Court decided to promote a larger number of judges to the district judge rank.
Earlier, on 1 November, the chief justice had set 4 November as the date for the full court meeting.
