A Rajshahi court has framed charges against 107 persons, including war crime convict and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, in a case filed over the murder of Rajshahi University (RU) Chhatra League leader Farooq Hossain.

Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Enayet Kabir framed the charges after a hearing on Thursday.

Among the 110 accused, 60 were present during the hearing, 47 are at large and the rest are dead.

Sayeedi, who was jailed unto death for his crimes against humanity in 1971, was present in the court.

On Saturday, he was brought to Rajshahi Central Jail from Kashimpur. Maximum security was ensured on the court premises from Wednesday night upon his arrival.

State prosecutor Siraji Shawkat Salehi said the charges were framed against Sayeedi as he had arrived in Rajshahi three days before the assassination and persuaded Chhatra Shibir activists.

Jamaat-e-Islami's student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir activists raided the university on February 7, 2010, and hacked Chhatra League leader Farooq Hossain to death.

Police recovered Farooq’s body from a manhole on the campus the next day. A case was filed with Motihar police station in this connection.
