A court here today placed Salman F Rahman, Anisul Huq, Zunaid Ahmed Palak and five others on different terms of remand in separate cases lodged over murders committed during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

The other five remanded accused are-Trinamool BNP Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former officer in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan,  former assistant commissioner (AC) of police Tanjil Ahmed and sub-inspector Shahdat Hossain.

Of the eight Anisul, Salman, Palak and Shamsher were placed on a four-day remand each in the case lodged with Jatrabari Police Station over the killing of Md Pervej Miah. Former IGP Mamun was placed on a three-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Md Masudur Rahman Jony, while three former cops were placed on a five-day remand each in a case lodged over the brutal murder of Imam Hasan Tayeem.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the orders as police produced the eight accused before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each in the respective cases.

According to the case documents, Md Pervej Miah joined the anti-discrimination rally on August 5 in the Jatrabari area. He got shot in the afternoon and succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on
the same day. His mother Kaneej Fatema filed the case on 29 October.

Md Masudur Rahman Jony was returning from his workplace to his Demra house on 5 August. As he reached the Jatrabari intersection at around 1pm, he got shot. Jony was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on 12 August. The case was filed with the Jatrabari Police Station on 29 August.

Imam Hasan Tayeem got shot by police from close range as he and his two friends went to Kajla area in Jatrabari to drink tea at a tea stall on 20 July. He was left to die from his wounds as police were firing on Tayeem's friends whenever they tried to retrieve their injured friend.
