A mobile court today (1 March) fined a brick kiln in Munshiganj's Sreenagar Tk5 lakh for operating without a renewed environmental clearance and not having government permission to use soil for brick making.
During an operation in upazila's Jahanabad area, Shahidul Islam, special magistrate for environment and senior judicial magistrate under the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court fined the brick kiln named Organic Auto Bricks as per the Environment Conservation Act, 1995.
Zakir Hossain, acting bench assistant of the court, told The Business Standard that the special magistrate ordered Rahatun Islam Ripon Bhuiyan, the owner of the brick kiln, to pay a fine of Tk5 lakh or serve 30 days of imprisonment for failing to renew the environmental clearance and lacking government permission to use soil for brick production.
"As Rahatun Islam Ripon Bhuiyan was not present at the kiln at the time, the judge ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against him," he said.
