Kushtia court sends ex-info minister Inu to jail in two cases
Of the cases, one was filed over an attack on Bangla daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman in 2018, and another was filed on charges of attempted murder of the Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal leader during the July-August uprising in 2024

A Kushtia court today (9 March) ordered authorities concerned to send former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu to jail in two cases.
Of the cases, one was filed over an attack on Bangla daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman in 2018, and another was filed on charges of attempted murder of the Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal leader during the July-August uprising in 2024.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmuda Sultan of Kushtia Sadar Amli Court gave the order after Inu, who is also the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), was produced before the court under heavy police guard at around 2:30pm today.
He was brought to Kushtia jail from Dhaka earlier in the day.
According to the statement of the case filed over the attack on Mahmudur Rahman, the Amar Desh editor was attacked on 22 July 2018 in Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate court's premise after coming out from the court building securing bail in a defamation case filed by former district Chhatra League president and current district Swechchhasebak League president Yasir Arafat Tushar.
He was granted bail in a case filed over demeaning Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Mahmudur filed a case over the attack on him on 10 October in 2024 after the fall of the Awami League-led government, accusing ouster premier Sheikh Hasina, ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and 45 other named individuals. The case also accused another 15-20 unnamed people.
The second case against Inu was filed by Kushtia Swechhasebak Dal's Organising Secretary Shariful Islam, who suffered bullet wounds on 5 August.
