Hadi murder: Police ordered to submit probe report on 25 Jan
The six fugitives include Faisal Karim Masud, his accomplice Alamgir Hossain, alleged mastermind and former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Filips Scalp, Mukti Akter, and Jesmin Akter.
A court has set 25 January for the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha platform.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit the report today (20 January).
The information was confirmed by Roknuzzaman, a sub-inspector of the prosecution division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The court on 15 January, directed the CID to carry out further investigation into the murder of Hadi. It came up with the order after the complainant expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation and submitted a naraji petition against the chargesheet, seeking further probe.
The court on that day had set today for submitting the further investigation report.
Inspector Foisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch (DB) submitted the charge-sheet on 6 January against 17 accused, including alleged shooter Faisal Karim Masud and his parents Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. Eleven of the accused have been arrested so far and are now in jail.
The six fugitives include Faisal Karim Masud, his accomplice Alamgir Hossain, alleged mastermind and former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Filips Scalp, Mukti Akter, and Jesmin Akter.
The arrested accused also include Faisal Karim Masud's wife Shaheda Parvin Samia, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, alleged girlfriend Maria Akter Lima, and others-Md Kabir, Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, Civion Dew, Sanjay Chisim, Aminul Islam Raju, and Abdul Hannan Foysal.
According to the case statement, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on Hadi while he was travelling in a battery-run rickshaw on 12 December, and then fled the scene.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on 14 December.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad had on 20 December ordered inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case, which was initially filed as attempted murder, following Hadi's death on 18 December.
Earlier, on 6 January, the investigation officer of the case, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused. Subsequently, on 15 January, the complainant, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, filed a naraji (no-confidence) petition. On that day, the court directed the CID to conduct further investigation into the case.
According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Hadi had been serving as the spokesperson of the political and cultural platform Inqilab Mancha, formed in the post-uprising period. On 12 December around 2:20pm, assailants riding a motorcycle shot Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station and fled the scene. He sustained critical gunshot wounds to his head and below his right ear.
Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment. After a week of treatment, he died on 18 December.
Following the incident, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case of attempted murder with Paltan Police Station on 14 December, which was later converted into a murder case after Hadi's death.
