ICT sets 24 June for filing report in Ashulia body burning case
According to the prosecution, police members in Ashulia on 5 August 2024, allegedly shot and killed six youths and put their bodies into a police van and set it ablaze

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today set 24 June for submitting probe report in a case lodged over the killing of six youths during the July-August mass uprising and subsequently torching their bodies to conceal the evidence.
The three-judge panel of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a time plea of the prosecution.
Prosecutor Mizanul Islam filed and moved the plea for one month more time in filing the probe report in the case. Prosecutor Md Saimum Reza Talukder represented the prosecution in the hearing of the case at the tribunal.
Prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud and Faruk Ahammed were present at the courtroom, at the time.
The accused arrested in the case — former additional superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Dhaka district Md Abdullahil Kafi, former additional superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Md Shahidul Islam, formers cops officer-in-charge AFM Sayed, Detective Branch inspector Md. Arafat Hossain, sub-inspector Malek, and constable Mukul — were produced before the tribunal on Sunday.
The ICT on 15 April sent former additional superintendent of police (crimes and ops) Md Abdullahil Kafi, former additional superintendent of police (Savar circle) Md Shahidul Islam and former detective branch (DB) inspector Md Arafat Hossain to jail in the case.
According to the prosecution, police members in Ashulia on 5 August 2024, allegedly shot and killed six youths and put their bodies into a police van. The van was then set ablaze in an attempt to make it appear as though the protesters had torched the vehicle, resulting in the deaths.
"Tragically, one of the victims was still alive when the fire was set. Police poured petrol on the van and burned him alive," Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam told newsmen earlier.
Two complaints regarding the incident of burning a body were filed with the International Crimes Tribunal on 11 September last year. As both complaints were identical, they were combined into a single case. On 24 December, arrest warrants were issued against several individuals, including former local MP Saiful Islam. He remains absconding.
