The High Court has directed the Election Commission to take into custody all election-related documents of the Cox's Bazar-2 constituency after a defeated Jamaat candidate challenged the results of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The order was issued today (22 April) following a hearing on an application filed by AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, a candidate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Azad, who is also the party's assistant secretary general, contested the election in the constituency but was defeated. In that seat, BNP leader Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid was elected.
According to court proceedings, the High Court instructed the Election Commission to preserve all relevant materials, including ballot papers and result sheets, related to the constituency.
Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court Shishir Manir moved the petition on behalf of the applicant.
