HC drops ex-AG AM Amin Uddin’s anticipatory bail petitions in 3 cases from cause list
Earlier on Sunday, separate applications were filed seeking advance bail in the three cases.
The High Court today (31 March) dropped petitions filed by former attorney general AM Amin Uddin seeking anticipatory bail in three cases, including one over a murder in Dhaka's Jatrabari during last year's July Uprising.
A bench of Justice Md Iqbal Kabir and Justice Md Toufiq Inam removed the petitions from the cause list following a submission by the defence lawyers.
Earlier on Sunday, separate applications were filed seeking advance bail in the three cases.
According to court sources, advocates Minhajul Haque Chowdhury and Yousuf Khan Rajib appeared for the petitioner, while Additional Attorney General Aneek R Haque represented the state.
The former attorney general is among the accused in a case filed over alleged irregularities and fraud in the Supreme Court Bar Association (Bangladesh) election held on 25 September 2024. The case was lodged by Supreme Court lawyer ABM Ibrahim Khalil with a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate's court, naming around 40 individuals, including Amin Uddin. Another case was also filed over the same incident.
He is also an accused in a murder case filed with Jatrabari Police Station over violence during the July–August protests, where more than 160 lawyers were named in the case.
A senior Supreme Court lawyer, Amin Uddin was appointed the country's 16th attorney general on 8 October 2020 and assumed office on 11 October that year. Following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024 amid mass protests, he resigned on 7 August citing personal reasons and has remained out of public view since then.
