HC dismisses Zulias Cizar’s plea to reinstate candidacy in polls
The court also rejected his petition to suspend the Ducsu polls

The High Court today (8 September) dismissed a writ petition filed by Zulias Cizar Talukdar, who had sought reinstatement of his candidacy and ballot number for the post of vice president in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Biswajit Debnath issued the order.
Lawyer Sardar Abul Hossain represented the petitioner, while Mohammad Shishir Manir stood for the university.
An independent candidate, Zulias Cizar Talukdar filed the writ on 3 September, also seeking suspension of the Ducsu polls until the requests were met.
The petition also challenged the university syndicate's decision to form a three-member panel to probe allegations against him, arguing that the decision was beyond legal authority.
Earlier, after verification, the Ducsu election commission published the final candidate list on 26 August, which included Zulias Cizar's name and ballot number 26.
Allegations were then made to the commission that Talukder was linked to the banned student organisation Chhatra League.
After hearings in the electoral appeal tribunal, no decision was made on his candidacy; instead, the tribunal sent recommendations to the election commission.
Based on these recommendations, the commission removed Zulias Cizar's candidacy and ballot number.
On 27 August, a legal notice was sent to the chief returning officer stating that he had not been given an opportunity to defend himself. Following no action, Zulias Cizar filed the writ in the High Court.
