GK Shamim gets 5.5 years jail in graft case

A court today convicted and sentenced controversial contractor Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim to five and a half years (5.5 years) in jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing illegal wealth.
Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 pronounced the judgment and also fined the convict Taka one lakh, in default, to suffer three months more in jail. The court also ordered to seizure Tk297.08 crore of the
convict in favor of the state.
The court acquitted the co-accused and Shamim's mother, Ayesha Akter, of the charges, Belal Hossain, bench assistant of the court, told BSS.
The ACC, on October 21, 2019, filed the case against GK Shamim and his mother, Ayesha Akte,r for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 297.08 crore. The anti-graft body on December 22, 2020, filed a charge-sheet against the mother-son duo.
Dhaka Special Judge Court-4, on October 18, 2022, framed charges against the two accused, initiating the trial officially.
