Formal charge filed against AL's Hanif, three others over Kushtia killings during July Uprising

The prosecution has filed a formal charge at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of the Awami League, and three others in a case of crimes against humanity over the killing of seven people in Kushtia during the July Uprising.
The charge sheet, which includes three allegations, such as mass murder, was submitted to International Crimes Tribunal-2 today (October 5) by Prosecutor Mizanul Islam on behalf of the prosecution, confirmed ICT Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim.
According to the prosecution, the formal charge includes allegations related to the murder of six people in Kushtia.
Hanif, a top Awami League leader, is currently absconding.
The names of the three other accused were not disclosed due to pending issues regarding the issuance of arrest warrants.
Earlier, on September 25, a separate case was filed against former information minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haque Inu over the same incident.
The tribunal has set October 14 for the hearing on the formation of eight charges brought against him.
Six people were killed and several others were injured in Kushtia during the movement in July–August 2024.
Two separate cases were later filed with the International Crimes Tribunal against five individuals, including Inu and Hanif. Investigation reports in both cases were submitted by the tribunal's investigation agency.
