Families of July Uprising victims in Rampura received justice through verdict: ICT chief prosecutor
He said that the accused opened fire in Rampura on 19 July 2024, resulting in the deaths of Maya Islam and Nahid Islam.
International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam has said the families of those killed and injured in the Rampura crimes against humanity case have received justice through the tribunal's verdict.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on the tribunal premises today (28 June), shortly after the verdict was delivered in a case over the killing of two people and the shooting of a young man hanging from a building cornice during the July Uprising in Dhaka's Rampura area.
Aminul Islam said it was the third verdict delivered by the reconstituted International Crimes Tribunal.

"Today, following the completion of the trial in the Rampura case, the verdict has been delivered. In this incident, two people were killed and one was seriously injured," he said.
The tribunal sentenced three former senior police officers, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman, to death after finding the allegations proven.
Additionally, assistant sub-inspector Chanchal Chandra Sarkar was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment, while sub-inspector Tarikul Islam was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Aminul Islam said Habibur Rahman had instructed his subordinates through a radio message to shoot protesters in the legs in order to suppress the anti-discrimination students' movement in July 2024.
"Although his verbal instruction was to shoot at the legs, in reality bullets were fired at the chest and head," he said.
He said that the accused opened fire in Rampura on 19 July 2024, resulting in the deaths of Maya Islam and Nahid Islam.
The chief prosecutor also said Chanchal had admitted to firing at Amir Hossain while he was hanging from a building cornice.
"The charge against him was proven on the basis of his confession. He was convicted on one of the three charges and acquitted of the remaining two," he said.
Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, Aminul said, "This has been a proper verdict. We are satisfied with the judgment. We believe the families of those killed and injured have received justice through this verdict."
