A Dhaka court today sent ex-principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Nazibur Rahman and former home secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan to jail in a case lodged over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order as police produced Nazibur, also the former chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR), and Aminul before the court after the end of their three-day remand in the case.

The court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque on 7 October placed Nazibur Rahman and Md Aminul Islam Khan on a three-day remand each.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Nazibur Rahman from the capital's Ramna area, and Aminul from the capital's Banani area on 6 October.

According to the case documents, BNP called a grand rally on 28 October 2023. To foil the programme, Awami League too called its own grand rally in the capital.

At one stage, Awami League goons, with the help of police, attacked the BNP's rally in Nayapaltan, killing Shamim on the spot.

The case was filed with the capital's Paltan Police Station on 24 September 2024.
