Ex-MP Safia Khatun shown arrested in murder attempt case

A court today (16 June) showed Safia Khatun, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from Cox's Bazar-1 constituency, which includes Chakaria and Pekua upazilas, arrested in a case lodged over attempt to murder one Soyaib Rahman during the July-August mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order as police produced Safia, also a former president of Mahila Awami League, before the court and pleaded to show her arrest in the case. The court later sent her back to jail.
A team of police arrested Safia Khatun from the Balughat area under Pallabi Police Station on 30 November last year. The former lawmaker was shown arrested in Akram Hossain Rabbi murder case and was sent to jail the next day.
According to the case documents, Soyaib Rahman got shot in Mirpur-10 area on 4 August as he was taking part in an anti-discrimination student movement. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he took primary treatment.
Soyaib filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station on 1 December 2024.
