Ex-DIG Abdul Jalil sent to jail in crimes against humanity case over Shapla Chattar crackdown
Following the hearing, the tribunal ordered that he be sent to jail.
Former DIG Abdul Jalil Mondal has been sent to jail after being shown arrested in a case over alleged crimes against humanity, including killings and torture linked to the 2013 Shapla Chattar crackdown.
The order was issued today (31 March) by the single-member ICT-1 bench of retired district and sessions judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam represented the prosecution during the hearing and filed the application to show Jalil arrested in the case.
Following the hearing, the tribunal ordered that he be sent to jail.
Jalil was produced before the tribunal at around 12:30pm on the day.
Earlier yesterday (30 March) evening, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch arrested him from the Sabujbagh area of the capital, where a warrant had already been issued against him in the case.
