Ex-customs commissioner files Tk15cr lawsuit against two ex-NBR chairmen
The case alleges that the two NBR chairmen unlawfully dismissed the plaintiff from service and later failed to properly comply with a court order for his reinstatement

Former customs commissioner Hafizur Rahman has filed a lawsuit on charges of his unlawful dismissal and seeking Tk15 crore in damages against two former chairmen of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem and Nojibur Rahman.
The case alleges that the two NBR chairmen unlawfully dismissed the plaintiff from service and later failed to properly comply with a court order for his reinstatement.
Three other former NBR officials—Suraiya Parvin Shelley, Eidtajul Islam, and Raihanul Islam Bhuiyan—have also been named as defendants in the case.
The lawsuit was filed in the Third Joint District Sessions Judge's Court last November. The court accepted it on 3 February and scheduled the first hearing for 3 March.
Hafizur Rahman confirmed the filing of the case to The Business Standard.
According to the case statement, Hafizur Rahman was dismissed from service on 28 November 2016 while serving as the customs bond commissioner.
He challenged the dismissal in the Administrative Tribunal and, after securing a favourable verdict, applied for reinstatement.
However, the reinstatement was delayed until his retirement, and when it was finally granted on 30 November 2023, he was not given his due promotion, the case statement reads.
His lawyer, Advocate Md Abbus Uddin, stated, "The court accepted it as a case on 3 February. Summons have been issued for the accused to appear on the 3rd."
Despite repeated attempts, Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem could not be reached for comment.
Notably, Nojibur Rahman is currently in jail. He was arrested last October in connection with a murder case and later remanded by a Dhaka court.
