Ex-BFIU chief Masud Biswas, Matiur's wife Laila to be interrogated at jail gate

A Dhaka court today (26 January) ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to interrogate former chief of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) Masud Biswas and former member of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Matiur Rahman's wife Laila Kaniz at the jail gate for one day.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders after holding hearing on separate remand petitions of the ACC.
A team of ACC, led by its Deputy Director (DD) Gulshan Anwar, detained Masud Biswas from the city's Mirpur area on 17 January.
He was produced before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate the next day and the court sent him to jail. The ACC on 19 January filed its plea to allow them to take Masud Biswas on a seven-day remand.
The court had set today to hold hearing on the matter.
Masud Biswas, an executive director (ED) of Bangladesh Bank, was the head of the BFIU for a long time and terminated from the service after 5 August .
The ACC on 2 January filed a case against Masud Biswas for amassing illegal wealth of Tk1.87 crore.
Meanwhile, Detective Branch (DB) of police on 15 January arrested Matiur Rahman and his wife Laila Kaniz from the city's Bashundhara area. Laila was produced before the court on that day and the police pleaded to place her on a seven-day remand. Laila's counsel, however, argued for her bail.
The court on that day had fixed 19 January for holding hearing on the matter. On 19 January, the court scrapped Laila Kaniz's bail plea and had set today to hold hearing on the remand plea.
According to the case documents, Laila Kaniz amassed illegal wealth of Tk13 crore and concealed information about wealth of Tk1.53 crore.
