Evaly Chairman Shamima, MD Rassel jailed for 3 years in fraud case
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajur Rahman pronounced the judgment, also fining them Tk5,000 each or to suffer six months more behind bars in default

A Dhaka court today (6 April) sentenced notorious e-commerce platform Evaly's Chairman Shamima Nasrin and her husband and the company's Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Rassel to three years imprisonment in a fraud case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajur Rahman pronounced the judgment, also fining them Tk5,000 each or to suffer six months more behind bars in default.
"The court also issued an arrest warrant against the couple as they remained absconding during the pronouncement of the judgment," the plaintiff's counsel Sakibul Islam told BSS.
According to the case documents, the plaintiff, Mujahid Hasan Fahim, ordered a bike from the company on February 20, 2021, and paid the money in advance. But Evaly authorities failed to hand him over the bike within the stipulated time of 45 days.
Fahim went to their Dhanmandi office, from where he was given a cheque of Tk5 lakh, but the company later asked him not to encash the cheque as their account did not have enough money at the time.
After that, the plaintiff contacted the company on numerous occasions for his money, but his cry went unheard. Mujahid Hasan Fahim, after that, sent a legal notice and subsequently filed the case against Rassel and Shamima in January 2024.
