Lutful Tahmina Khan is accused of acquiring and possessing Tk15.46 crore in assets beyond her known sources of income, which constitutes an offence under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of the income tax documents of Lutful Tahmina Khan, wife of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, as part of an ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission investigation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order today (24 November) following an application submitted by ACC Deputy Director and Investigating Officer Md Muhammad Zainal Abedin. Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
According to the ACC application, Lutful Tahmina Khan is accused of acquiring and possessing Tk15.46 crore in assets beyond her known sources of income, which constitutes an offence under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
The application also states that former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan allegedly abused his position to assist her in committing the offence, making him liable under Section 109 of the Penal Code.
In addition, the ACC alleges that Lutful Tahmina carried out suspicious transactions amounting to Tk43.77 crore through 10 bank accounts held in her name and in the name of institutions in which she has partial ownership.
These transactions, the ACC says, fall outside her known income sources and involve the transfer and conversion of funds in violation of Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
The ACC told the court that seizing and reviewing her income tax returns and related documents is essential to ensure a proper investigation into the case.
