A court has ordered the seizure of the income tax records of former chief whip and former Madaripur-1 lawmaker Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury over allegations of corruption.
The order was issued today (6 May) by the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed the court's Bench Assistant Riaz Hossain.
The petition was filed on behalf of the ACC by its Assistant Director and investigating officer AKM Mortuza Ali Sagar.
According to the application, Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury is accused of acquiring assets worth Tk57.49 crore beyond known sources of income and keeping them under his possession.
The ACC also alleged that suspicious transactions amounting to Tk232.11 were carried out through the accused's eight bank accounts, and that he maltreated his power.
The application further stated that Chowdhury is a taxpayer, and seizure of his original income tax records including permanent and miscellaneous files from the beginning of his tax payment history up to the 2024-25 tax year is necessary for a fair investigation.
