Court orders seizure of building of former VAT official’s wife in Ctg
The order was issued yesterday (29 June) by Chattogram Senior Special Judge Hasanul Islam, who also appointed the Nazir (court officer) of the Chattogram court as the receiver of the property

A Chattogram court has ordered the seizure of a five-storey residential building in the city's Katalganj area, owned by Tasnim Jahan Chowdhury, the wife of retired assistant commissioner of Excise and VAT Mohammad Nasir Uddin, over allegations of amassing illegal wealth.
The order was issued on 29 June by Chattogram Senior Special Judge Hasanul Islam, who also appointed the Nazir (court officer) of the Chattogram court as the receiver of the property.
Confirming the matter, Subel Ahmed, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission at the Chattogram Integrated District Office-1, said, "A corruption case is currently under investigation against Tasnim Jahan Chowdhury and her husband for acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income. As part of the investigation, the ACC sought the court's permission to confiscate the building, which the court approved."
"The couple will no longer be able to sell or transfer the property, as it is now under court custody," the ACC official added.
Nasir Uddin, who is now retired, last served as assistant commissioner and divisional officer in the Excise and VAT department in Moulvibazar.
The ACC filed the case accusing him of concealing wealth worth Tk28.34 lakh in his asset declaration and possessing Tk1.36 crore in assets inconsistent with his known sources of income.
He currently resides in the seized building located on Road 3 of the Katalganj residential area in the port city.
His ancestral home is in Bajalia, Satkania upazila of Chattogram.
