A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of immovable properties belonging to former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, his wife Rukmila Jaman, his brother Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, and other associated individuals and entities.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez passed the order today (5 October) following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed ACC's Public Relations Officer Akhtarul.
Among the notable properties brought under attachment are, 2,499 square feet flat in Chattogram city's R Nizam Road residential area, 1,917 square feet flat at Probortok Circle in Pachlaish, and a 2,135 square feet flat under the name of Aramit Cement in East Nasirabad, Chattogram.
The application was submitted by ACC Deputy Director Md Mosiur Rahman, who stated that a nine-member joint investigation team had been formed to probe allegations of money laundering against the former minister and his associates.
During the investigation, the ACC learned from confidential sources that Saifuzzaman, his wife, his brother, and related entities were attempting to transfer or dispose of assets linked to the allegations, according to the application.
The application argued that such transfers would cause significant loss to the state, making an immediate attachment of the assets essential.
This latest order comes after the same court, on 5 March, ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts belonging to Saifuzzaman, which held Tk 5.26 crore. On 22 June, the court also imposed a travel ban on the former minister's three children.
