Court orders jail gate interrogation of ex-MP Jakob
Police arrested Jakob on 1 October 2024 from Dhaka’s Gulshan area, and he has remained in jail since then.
A Dhaka court today (23 May) ordered the arrest and one-day jail gate interrogation of former Bhola-4 lawmaker Abdullah Al Islam Jakob in a disproportionate assets and money laundering case.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Jakob was produced before the court during the hearing.
His lawyer, Khair Uddin Sikder, filed a bail petition, which the court fixed for hearing on 16 June. ACC prosecutor Hafizur Rahman sought the arrest order against the former lawmaker.
Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the information.
On 19 May, investigating officer and ACC Deputy Director SM Rashedur Reza applied to show Jakob arrested in the case. The same officer also sought permission for jail gate interrogation.
The court today fixed the hearing date for both matters.
On 24 April 2025, ACC Deputy Director SM Rashedur Reza filed the case as the complainant. The allegations include acquiring and possessing movable and immovable assets worth Tk13.98 crore that are inconsistent with known sources of income.
The former minister also allegedly transferred, converted and handed over Tk85.69 crore through various bank accounts.
