A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on United Group and Neptune Housing Limited founder and former chairman Hasan Mahmud Raja, along with two others, amid an ongoing investigation into corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Fayez passed the order today (18 January) following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), according to court sources.
The other two placed under the travel ban are United Group Chairman and Managing Director Moin Uddin Hasan Rashid and former managing director of Neptune Housing Limited Abul Kalam Azad.
On behalf of the ACC, Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam sought the travel ban to prevent the accused from leaving the country during the probe.
According to the application, Hasan Mahmud Raja, also known as Raja Mia, and 12 others are accused of grabbing government property through forged documents in collusion. The ACC also alleges that the accused acquired illegal wealth and laundered money abroad.
The application further stated that the accused provided gas to United Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited at IPP rates through irregular means.
The ACC said investigation teams have been formed to probe the allegations and during the investigation, reliable sources indicated that the accused were attempting to flee abroad.
The commission said the travel ban is necessary to ensure a fair and proper investigation.
