Court attaches 178 bigha plots of Nabil Group MD

A Dhaka court today (24 March) ordered authorities to attach 178 bigha plots owned by Nabil Group managing director (MD) Md Aminul Islam, his wife Ishrat Jahan and their four companies, over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Of the plots, 132 bigha were in the name of Aminul, 23 bigha in Ishrat's name, 13 bigha under the name of Nabil Pharma, one bigha in name of Anwar Feed Mills, nine bigha in name of Nabil Great Homes Limited and another eight shatak under the name of Nabil Naba Foods.

According to the case documents, there are allegations of money embezzlement and laundering against Aminul Islam, his family members and the companies owned by him. These immovable properties owned by the accused can be handed over to evade the ongoing investigation against them and that is why these should be attached, the ACC plea said.
