Caretaker sentenced to life for raping teenager in Keraniganj
The accused, Md Said Mollah, was also fined Tk1 lakh and failure to pay the fine will result in an additional year in jail

A Dhaka tribunal has sentenced a caretaker to life in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl in the Agarnagar area of South Keraniganj four years ago.
Judge Munsi Md Moshiar Rahman of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 announced the verdict today (3 September), confirmed Public Prosecutor Ershad Alam.
The accused, Md Said Mollah, was also fined Tk1 lakh and failure to pay the fine will result in an additional year in jail.
The court further ordered the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner to sell the accused's movable and immovable assets to compensate the victim.
The accused, who was in jail, was brought to the court for the verdict and sent back after the sentence was announced.
According to the case file, the victim's family lived in a rented house in the Agarnagar area, where the accused worked as a caretaker of the building.
He used to harass the victim often.
On 2 August 2021, Md Said Mollah lured the victim to the rooftop of the building on the pretext of looking for her younger brother and then raped her. He then threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She was raped again on 23 September of the same year.
The victim's mother then filed a case with the South Keraniganj Police Station on 24 September of that year.
The case's investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Ali Jinnah, submitted the charge sheet against the accused on 31 August 2022. The court took testimony from eight witnesses during the trial.
