Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam said allegations of bribery involving members of the prosecution team of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will be investigated.
He made the statement during a briefing at his office at the Tribunal today (24 February).
The allegations concern reported financial transactions aimed at making former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun a state witness in a crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina.
Aminul Islam said strict action would be taken if any prosecutor is found to be involved in irregularities.
He also said it would be verified whether investigations into the July killing cases were conducted properly.
If errors or negligence are found and legal provisions allow, necessary steps will be taken.
Earlier in the day, the newly appointed chief prosecutor held a meeting with members of the Tribunal's prosecution team to discuss the overall situation of the ICT, including the July Uprising cases, and issued directions.
Notably, Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud recently raised allegations of financial corruption against ICT prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim.
