Earlier, on 5 February 2016, hackers stole $81 million from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States.
The deadline for submitting the investigation report in the Bangladesh Bank (BB) reserve heist case has been postponed yet again today (8 December), marking the 91st delay.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was supposed to submit the report today but could not do so. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam then set 13 January as the new date, confirmed DMP Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector (SI) Rokonuzzaman.
Earlier, on 5 February 2016, hackers stole $81 million from Bangladesh Bank's account at the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States.
Following the incident, on 15 March 2016, Zubair Bin Huda, deputy director of Bangladesh Bank's Accounts and Budgeting Department, filed a case with the Motijheel Police Station against unidentified individuals under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
According to the case documents, unidentified hackers stole $101 million from the BB's accounts with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on February 5, 2016. Of the amount, $81 million was transferred to four accounts with RCBC in Philippines and another $20 million to a bank in Sri Lanka.
However, the transfer of $20 million to Sri Lanka failed due to a spelling error by the hackers. Later, the BB was able to retrieve about $15 million from the Philippines.
