Arrest warrants issued against 4, including sons of BNP's Gias Uddin Quader, in assault case

A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against four individuals, including two sons of BNP leader Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, in a case filed over allegations of assault and attempt to forcibly occupy a flat in Gulshan.
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah issued the order today (1 April), the plaintiff's lawyer Zakir Hossain confirmed.
Those named in the arrest warrant include Sameer Quader Chowdhury and Shakir Quader Chowdhury, sons of Gias Uddin Quader. The other two accused in the case are Monira Ershad and Ashikur Rahman Ashik.
The case was filed with Gulshan Police Station in the capital, alleging assault and intimidation.
"The accused did not appear in court today and instead sought more time through their lawyers. We opposed the petition, and after hearing both sides, the court cancelled their bail and issued arrest warrants," Zakir Hossain said.
According to the case statement, the accused had long been trying to occupy the second and third-floor flats of an industrialist's residence. On 3 December last year, they allegedly broke into the ground-floor office of the building, looted equipment worth Tk5 lakh, including chairs, tables, and printers and caused damages worth Tk2 lakh.
The complaint further stated that the accused attacked the plaintiff and his family with rods, pipes, and hammers when he tried to repair the ground floor the next day. They allegedly threatened him with death and told him to leave the property. When he resisted, he and his son were beaten and injured. Local residents later rushed to the scene after hearing their cries for help.
The family sought help through the national emergency service (999), after which Gulshan police arrived at the scene. The injured received treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.
The plaintiff, Farzana Anna Islam, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on 10 December last year following the incident.
