Appellate Division begins virtual hearing of cases

The full bench of the Appellate Division began hearing cases virtually on Monday after a four-month hiatus.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said the judiciary should be taken forward virtually in the current situation. If this system is effective, the virtual trial will continue five days a week in the Appellate Division.

Other judges of the Appellate Division also gave their opinions terming this sitting of the Virtual Appellate Division as regular proceedings of the court.

Beside the chief justice, five other judges of the Appellate Division took part in the proceedings.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, chief legal officer of the state, and AM Amin Uddin, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, took part in the virtual trial.

Earlier on Sunday, Registrar of the Appellate Division Badrul Alam Bhuiyan issued a notification, saying judicial work would be conducted two days a week.

The holidays in the Supreme Court started on March 13. After that, all the courts across the country were declared closed from March 26 due to coronavirus.
Because of this, the judicial work of the Appellate Division was closed for the last four months.
