Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Hasan of Jatrabari Police Station, produced the accused before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for each
A Dhaka court yesterday (15 April) placed Harun Or Rashid Munna, general secretary of Jatrabari unit Awami League, and Kamrul Hasan Ripon, president of Dhaka South unit Swechchhasebak League, on a two-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Md Parvez Mia.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order after a hearing.
Public Prosecutor Harun Or Rashid of the concerned court confirmed the matter.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Hasan of Jatrabari Police Station, produced the accused before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for each.
The remand petition stated that evidence suggests the accused were involved in the killing under their leadership. It further said that interrogation is necessary to identify those who issued instructions, collect their details, and arrest absconding suspects to ensure a fair and proper investigation.
According to the case statement, Parvez Mia was shot around 5:00pm on 5 August 2024 while participating in the anti-discrimination student movement. He was first taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
A murder case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station on 29 October in connection with the incident.
