Tapashee Tabassum Urmi, an assistant commissioner of Lalmonirhat who had been temporarily suspended, has received bail from a Dhaka court in a defamation case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imran Ahmed accepted Urmi's bail petition over a Tk500 bond today (28 November).

Urmi surrendered before the court through her lawyer around 10:30am today (28 November), while the plaintiff's lawyer Khademul Islam opposed the bail plea during the hearing.

On 8 October, Member of Higher Council and Media Coordinator of Gano Odhikar Parishad Abu Hanif filed an application with a Dhaka court to lodge a defamation case against Urmi accusing her of making derogatory comments about the martyrs of July-August uprising, including Abu Saeed.

After recording and reviewing the statement of the plaintiff the court summoned Urmi to appear before it on 28 November.

The case statement says Urmi wrote a Facebook post on 5 October, where she made indecent comments about Abu Saeed and Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
