3 Chinese nationals sent to jail over illegal iPhone supply
The accused are identified as Tanzian, Wu Jun, and Dong Hongwei.
Three Chinese nationals arrested in two separate cases under the Special Powers Act were sent to jail today (8 January) after police uncovered an illegal iPhone supply and assembly operation in the capital's Nikunja and Uttara areas.

Two separate Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate courts passed the orders, State prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
Earlier, police produced the accused before the courts and sought their detention in jail. Following the hearings, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam and Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed separate orders sending them to jail.
According to the prosecution, acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the Nikunja area under Khilkhet Police Station at around 4:45pm today. During the operation, Wu Jun and Dong Hongwei were arrested along with 305 illegally smuggled iPhones, valued at Tk60.40 lakh.
The phones were allegedly brought into Bangladesh from China through smuggling, evading customs duties and taxes.
In another case, police raided a rented house in Sector 13 under Uttara West Police Station and arrested Chinese national Tanzian. Police recovered 58 iPhones from his possession.
The prosecution said preliminary investigations have found evidence against the accused.
Earlier this morning, the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police carried out simultaneous raids in Uttara and Nikunja areas, arresting the three Chinese nationals.
During the raids, police recovered a total of 363 iPhones of various models, a large quantity of iPhone spare parts, and eight bottles of foreign liquor. The estimated market value of the seized phones and accessories is around Tk1.75 crore, according to police.
