A Kishoreganj court today (26 February) sentenced 13 people to life-term imprisonment in a murder case in Karimganj upazila of the district filed in 2020.

District and Sessions Judge Nurul Amin Biplob announced the verdict in the presence of 13 convicts this afternoon, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Md Jalal Uddin.

The convicts are-- Mojibur Rahman, 65, his three sons-- Shamim Mia, 40, Md. Arif, 31, and Aminul, 37, nephew Rashid, 55, Mojibur's brother Habibur Rahman, 63, his three sons-- Mukhles, 32, Kamrul, 29 and Rana, 25, Faizul, 50, Monir, 29, Shahin, 40, and Hadis Mia, 50.

According to the prosecution, Monir Mia, a farmer of Bhatia-Mirpara village in Karimganj upazila of the district, had a conflict with his cousin and other relatives over a land. Over the matter, On 10 April 2020, the convicts led by Mojibur Rahman, attacked Monir and two others with country-made weapons, leaving them injured.

Of the injured, Monir was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries on 12 April.

Monir's younger brother Ain Uddin filed a murder case with Karimganj Police Station on the night of 12 April, naming 14 people.

After investigating the case, the then inspector (Investigation) of Karimganj police station, Nahid Hasan Sumon, submitted a charge sheet to the court on 30 September 2020 against the accused.

The judge after examining witnesses and evidence found them guilty and announced the verdict.
