The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against four people, including two former vice-chancellors of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), on charges of fraud and illegally appointing assistant professors in violation of the terms of the recruitment policy.
The case was filed by the agency's Deputy Assistant Director Jalal Uddin at the Jashore Integrated District Office today (4 March), ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed to The Business Standard.
The accused are former JUST VCs Prof Md Abdus Sattar and Professor Md Anwar Hossain, Professor of JUST's Microbiology Department Md Iqbal Kabir Ahid, and Professor of Botany Department of Rajshahi University Md Ferdousi Begum.
According to the case statement, the accused, in collusion with each other, benefitted from illegally appointing Md Iqbal Kabir Zahid as an assistant professor despite him not having the qualifications and experience.
They committed corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust and violation of the terms of the recruitment policy, the university's laws, statutes and UGC directives.
Through this appointment, they withdrew a total of Tk1.13 crore from the university fund for salary and allowances from June 2009 to April 2023.
A case has been filed against the accused under Sections 409/420/109 of the Penal Code, along with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
