Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has grilled Yusuf Ali Sardar, the sacked acting chief revenue officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), over his alleged involvement in amassing illegal wealth by embezzling the corporation's money.

Syed Nazrul Islam, assistant director of the ACC, interrogated him for two hours, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, on Tuesday at the ACC's headquarters in the capital's Segunbagicha area.

ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

According to ACC sources, the commission initiated an inquiry against Yusuf and several other DSCC officials in August, over their alleged involvement in the misuse of power to accumulate illegal wealth.

Days after taking the charge on May 17, DSCC mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, terminated the then-additional chief engineer Asaduzzaman and acting chief revenue officer Yusuf Ali Sardar on different charges.

There are widespread corruption charges against these two officials, including for illegally earning crores of taka.

Meanwhile, ACC enquiry Officer Syed Nazrul Islam sent a letter to the DSCC's chief executive officer and sought documents related to Yusuf Ali Sardar's alleged involvement in corruption for digital billboard allocations.
