Cops deployed at Dhaka Alia Madrasah amid fears of Chhatra Dal-Shibir clash

Police have been deployed around Government Madrasah-e-Alia, widely known as Dhaka Alia Madrasah, in the Bakshibazar area of the capital today (8 August) amid fears of clashes between Chhatra Dal and Shibir.
Chawk Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said police had been stationed at Bakshibazar intersection, on the road leading to Alia Madrasah and in front of its gate.
Around 12 noon, police also set a barricade at the Bakshibazar intersection to prevent anyone from going to Alia Madrasa, causing a temporary traffic congestion in the area.

OC Mamun said, "The deployment is primarily a precautionary security measure following the earlier clash between the two groups."
Police were deployed in anticipation of possible clashes after one group announced that it would enter Alia Madrasah today, he added.
Earlier, the two groups clashed on Tuesday (4 August) over control of the student halls. After around 1.5 hours of clashes and chases, Chhatra Dal took control of the halls at Alia Madrasah. Later, Shibir announced that its members would enter the halls today.
