A policeman was killed and another injured in a collision between their motorcycle and a pickup truck on the Sylhet-Companiganj Road in Salutikar area of Sylhet last night (4 October).

Kazi Atikur Rahman, who was in his 30s, was a sub-inspector (SI) of the Industrial Police, Sylhet Zone, confirmed Sylhet Metropolitan Police's (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Saiful Islam.

He said Atikur and his colleague were coming back from Gowainghat Police Station, after conducting some official work, when the pickup truck coming from the opposite direction crashed into their motorcycle.

SI Atikur was killed on the spot, while the other policeman was left injured. Atikur's body was recovered and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for an autopsy, said SMP official Saiful.

The pickup truck driver managed to flee the scene, but the vehicle was impounded, he added.
