Consensus on key July Charter points needs to be reached by 31 July: Ali Riaz
“We hope to compile the various opinions and share the points agreed upon in the initial stage with political parties today or tomorrow,” says the vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission

Professor Ali Riaz, the vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has stressed the need to finalise at least the agreed points of the July Charter by 31 July.
"By 31 July, we must finalise the charter's outline, at least making the points on which there is consensus clear and including them in the charter," he said during the 21st day of discussions with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka today (29 July).
The day's dialogue began with discussions on the caretaker government system. Topics such as women's representation in parliament, the appointment of the comptroller and auditor general, and the establishment of an ombudsman were also on the agenda.
"We are waiting for comments on these matters until tomorrow. We hope to compile the various opinions and share the points agreed upon in the initial stage with political parties today or tomorrow.
"With these consensus points attached, we aim to finalise the draft charter by the day after tomorrow," Riaz said.
Regarding new proposals from several parties on the caretaker government issue, he added, "We are working to integrate these into a comprehensive proposal. Every party has its own stance, and we are trying to take those positions into account while moving forward with the proposals."
He further stated, "The commission aims to present a proposal incorporating the views of political parties. While this may take a little more time, it will make the next phase of discussions much easier."
Ali Riaz expressed gratitude for the participants' patience and cooperation. "We appreciate the tolerance and sincerity shown by political leaders towards the commission."
