Community health care providers withdraw protest after salary assurance
The agitated health workers have vowed to continue their sit-in until all pending salaries and allowances are disbursed
At least 634 Community Health Care Providers (CHCPs) have called off their sit-in protest after assurances from the management that their pending salaries will be addressed.
The protest, which began yesterday over 15 months of unpaid wages, was withdrawn tonight (25 September) following a meeting with Md Akhtaruzzaman, managing director of the Community Clinic Health Assistance Trust.
Confirming the matter, protester Md Rasel Shikdar told The Business Standard that while not all dues will be paid immediately, salaries from 15 December 2024, to June 2025 will be disbursed, with the remaining payments to follow later.
Yesterday, the CHCPs held a sit-in at the office of the Community Clinic Health Support Trust (CCHST), located in the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) building in Mohakhali, confining the trust's officials and staff to the office for hours.
The protesters said this was not the first day of action; on Tuesday, they had similarly confined the managing director, but the authorities were yet to resolve the issue.
The CHCPs alleged that although the Ministry of Public Administration approved 13,923 posts and the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Finance endorsed their recruitment, they have still not received their salaries.
While 13,289 CHCPs recruited in 2024 began receiving payments from December 15 of that year, the 634 appointed in 2023 remain unpaid, they said.
The aggrieved health workers have vowed to continue their sit-in until all pending salaries and allowances are disbursed.
