In line with the recommendations of the Media Reform Commission, the government has formed a five-member committee to ensure the autonomy of state-owned Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar.
The committee will also review media policies from the past 15 years and contribute to the formulation of future guidelines for television and other media platforms.
The decision was made during a meeting held this afternoon (19 June) at the state guest house Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
After the meeting, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy.
The committee will be chaired by Education Adviser CR Abrar. Other members include Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan.
The committee's primary responsibility is to chart a roadmap for implementing the reform commission's recommendations and focusing on transforming the state media into independent, accountable institutions.
