Coast Guard, Navy rescue 25 people from human traffickers in Teknaf
The Bangladesh Coast Guard, in a joint operation with the Navy, rescued 25 people—including women and children—from a human trafficking den in a remote hilly area near Jumma Para in Baharchhara, Teknaf, on Monday, 3 November 2025.
The operation, conducted between 2pm and 5pm, led to the arrest of two suspected traffickers, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said on Tuesday morning.
Acting on intelligence and information obtained from previously detained traffickers, the joint team carried out the operation after learning that several people were being held captive for illegal trafficking to Malaysia by sea.
During initial questioning, the victims said organised trafficking rings had been luring Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens from various areas—including Teknaf—with false promises of high-paying jobs and cheap travel abroad. The traffickers had planned to smuggle them to Malaysia by boat from the Marine Drive coastline and had allegedly been torturing the captives to extort ransom.
Legal proceedings against the arrested traffickers are under way, authorities confirmed.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said the Bangladesh Coast Guard would continue its operations to curb human trafficking along the country's coastal regions.
