Clashes at Science Lab between students of 2 colleges, police hurl sound grenades to control situation
Clashes erupted in the Science Lab area over Dhanmondi Ideal College students allegedly assaulting a student of Dhaka College earlier this morning (28 October).
Intermittent clashes between the two groups continued throughout the morning, until police hurled sound grenades to control the situation around 12:30pm.
Following the initial clash, Dhaka College students later attacked a Dhanmondi Ideal College student in retaliation, sparking unrest between the two groups.
Law enforcement sources said, students from both institutions began marching and demonstrating in the Science Lab area and its surroundings.
Around 12:30pm, about 50–60 students from Dhanmondi Ideal College gathered in an alley near the Marriott Convention Hall, apparently preparing for a confrontation. Police asked them to disperse, but the students refused, leading to a clash.
Police then chased the students down Mirpur Road, prompting the students to throw bricks at the officers. This resulted in a brief chase and counter-chase between the two sides.
At one point, police fired sound grenades to disperse the crowd. The students eventually retreated through an alley beside Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.
Police later brought the situation under control, and the area is now reported to be calm.
