Children among 4 injured in explosion at Keraniganj madrasah
'This is not a gas explosion. The actual cause will be known after the investigation,' says the South Keraniganj Police Station OC.
An explosion occurred in a one-storey building of Ummul Qura International Madrasah in the Hasnabad area of South Keraniganj in Dhaka yesterday morning (26 December), leaving at least four people, including three children, injured.
Upon receiving information, police from South Keraniganj Police Station rushed to the scene.
However, they could not immediately confirm the exact cause of the explosion.
Those injured include madrasah teacher Al Amin's children Umayed, 10, Abdullah, 8, and Rabiya, 6.
The explosion also left Zakir Hossain, 45, a worker at a nearby CNG-run autorickshaw garage, injured.
Preliminary suspicion suggests the incident may have been caused by some kind of explosive chemical stored inside the building.
The bomb disposal units of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were informed to investigate the matter.
South Keraniganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Alam said although police initially suspected a gas explosion, an inspection of the site found the gas cylinder intact.
"This is not a gas explosion. The actual cause will be known after the investigation," he added.
