Chhatra Shakti stages torch procession protesting rape, killings across country
During the programme, activists chanted slogans demanding justice for rape and murder victims.
Dhaka University unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti staged a torch procession on the campus last night (20 May) protesting incidents of child rape, murder, and what it described as a worsening law and order situation across the country.
The procession began around 8:30pm from the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture and marched through different parts of the campus before ending at the same spot, where leaders and activists held a brief rally.
During the programme, activists chanted slogans demanding justice for rape and murder victims.
Speaking at the rally, the DU unit president of the organisation, Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury, alleged that incidents of rape, murder, and killings were continuing across the country.
"At present, we only see police attacking school and college students who come to paint graffiti. Beyond that, they seem to have no other work," he said.
He also questioned how much further the country's security situation must deteriorate, and how many more children must become victims of rape and murder before movements demanding the resignation of the home minister can begin.
Tahmid further alleged that the home minister was more focused on delivering lectures on the constitution, law, and education than addressing the deterioration of law and order.
"We do not see him holding press briefings on the worsening law and order situation in the country," he added.
