The Chittagong University (CU) unit of Chhatra Dal-backed panel 'Sajjad-Shafayet-Toufiq Parishad' has announced an eight-point manifesto ahead of the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) elections.
The manifesto was unveiled by vice-president candidate Sajjad Hossain Hridoy at a press conference held at the university's Buddijibi Chattar at 4:40pm today (8 October).
The panel's eight-point manifesto prioritises education and research, pledging to build a modern and student-friendly campus.
It also promises to ensure: the right to quality food and accommodation, guarantee student safety and legal support, create a secure campus for female students and ensure women's protection, improve and expand transport services, ensure quality healthcare and a hygienic environment, enrich literary, cultural, sports and recreational activities, and enhance career-building skills and employment opportunities.
Responding to a question on whether the Chhatra Dal-backed panel would act as an affiliate of the BNP if elected, Sajjad Hossain Hridoy said, "Chhatra Dal has always worked to uphold students' rights."
"If necessary, we will stand with students even if it means going beyond party lines," he added.
Present at the press conference were Chhatra Dal Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, CU unit leaders and activists, VP candidate Sajjad Hossain Hridoy, General Secretary candidate Shafayet Hossain, Joint General Secretary candidate Ayubur Rahman Toufiq, other panel members, and journalists from various electronic and print media outlets.
