Chhatra Dal blames DU administration for HC order to postpone Ducsu polls
The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division, however, stayed the High Court order, removing the legal bar to hold the election on 9 September.
Leaders of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal (JCD) have blamed the university administration's "failures and negligence" for the High Court's order to postpone the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election.
The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division, however, stayed the High Court order, removing the legal bar to hold the election on 9 September.
Speaking at a protest rally at DU campus after the High Court order this afternoon (1 September), DU JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas said, "We have repeatedly demanded punishment for those involved in fascist activities, but no action has been taken.
"Because of the administration's irresponsible attitude, we have been forced to take to the streets."
Abidul Islam Khan, vice president candidate from the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, accused the university authorities of leaving loopholes that enabled the postponement order.
"Does the university administration mock its own students? The Ducsu election will take place on time, and no one can stop it," he said.
He further alleged that despite submitting evidence-backed complaints to the administration, no steps were taken.
