Chairman behind problems of Sanofi Bangladesh: Sanofi Employees Union president

Multinational pharmaceutical company Sanofi Bangladesh's employees' union president Abdur Razzaque said that the problems in the company began after Ram Prasad Krishna Bhatt was appointed as the chairman of the company.

"Sanofi has been operating in the country since 1958. Over the last one and a half years, we have been going through uncertainty," he said this in a press conference at Jatiya Press Club today morning.

He claimed that Managing Director of Sanofi Bangladesh Muin Uddin Mazumder said: "The company is preparing to sell its shares to another party."

Razekuzzaman Ratan, worker's leader, speaking at the press conference that the decision of selling the shares will have an adverse effect on our country.

If Sanofi provides compensation through a third party, many of the employees will become the victims of job cuts.

The decision of selling the shares due to some strategic reasons has created tension among the employees.

Employees, therefore, have demanded guaranteed job security until the issue is resolved. They are opposed to any third party playing a role in compensation-related matters, Ratan said.

"If the management does not meet the demands, employees will stand for a human chain from October 18," said Abdur Razzaque.

"We will go for a tougher movement this time," he added.

A compensation proposal was submitted to the country chair and managing director by Sanofi employees on September 30.

On October 7, Sanofi employees started a 96-hour work abstention demanding compensation suspecting that the company will shut down the operation.
